It has been confiremd that Warner Brothers has aquired the live action rights to Bleach and is wasting no time in exercising them. With Dan Mazeau of the Wrath of the Titans remake assigned to scriptwriting duties. Peter Segal of the Get Smart remake is still attached as a producer with the possibility of being the director.
More after the jump…
Other’s involved include Segal’s business partner Michael Ewing, actor Masi Oka from the TV series Heroes (Hiro Nakamura in the series), and Jason Hoffs at Viz Productions Branon Coluccio is signed on as the executive producer. In a Variety Magazine interview, Segal told Variety, “I’ve always been a huge fan of Bleach and have great respect for its creator Kubo-sensei and the truly original and amazing world he has created in this manga.”
As soon as i read this… i immediately had a flash back to the abortion that was Dragonball Evolution (the single worst pile of shit i have ever seen), then to the Transformer films. Im sorry but American film studios have no bussiness adapting japanese based anime or cartoons. Its bad enough when they repackage stuff IE: Ju-on but really, why must they take anime and try to condense it into a neat 90 minuete arch to market at the average person with little to no knowledge of the original product.
Whats worse is they have no respect for the original and most of the time dont even bother getting details right, its not that i wouldnt want to see a live action bleach film. I just dont want to see one done by Americans. Keep in mind, i am not even a fan of Bleach. Sure its good but i just never got into it, and yet this news still pisses me off.
The singular good thing i can hope for is maybe they will get Johnny Yong Bosch who voices Ichigo to play him, and at least get that right. But that it more likely just a pipe dream. At least i have the Japanese made Rurouni Kenshin film due in the fall to look foward to. Though i am curious to see what you all think about this, please leave a comment and let me know.
