Bandai’s Tamashii Nation has now official unvield the rumor shrouded Hikōnin Sentai Akibaranger (Unofficial Sentai Akihabara Rangers)!
More after the jump…
Bandai Japan’s Tamashii Nation presents, Hikonin Sentai Akibaranger.
A unofficial Super Sentai following the lives of three people living in Akihabara’s Electric Town among many other otaku. When they discover a great evil plans to annihilate their neighborhood, they become Sentai warriors to stop it. Using super gear created by a beautiful and brilliant genius they will become Akibaranger. Also, according to the current rumors the main hideout for them will be a “sentai cafe”, a super sentai version of the popular maid cafes in japan.
The official site names several tokusatsu and anime veterans who are tied to this project including:
director Ryuta Tazaki (Kamen Rider),
director/character designer Keiichi Satou (Tiger And Bunny),
writer Naruhisa Arakawa (Kamen Rider Kuga, Spice and Wolf, Steel Angel Kurumi),
and composer Kenji Kawai (Ghost In Shell, Death Note, Eden Of The East).
The show will began aring in April.
I am really digging the idea of having an unofficial sentai, mainly because the basis of the show strikes me as interesting. A sentai team, based in Otaku heaven Akihabara, its un-offical so they can have a bit more freedom with it and not be tied so much to the idea of regular Super Sentai and the costumes are just awesome.
Im serious, in my honest opinion these beat the Gobuster outfits and most sentai outfits. I also like to see that at least at the start the females will out number the males as main characters for a change. What i am really hoping for is this series to be treated as a more adult Sentai, aimed towards the 18-34 crowd but if they will go that route remains to be seen. Still, i look forward to new information and its debut.
